Hi all.
Looking for a couple of single swags for boys 8 + 13yrs. Looking at Oztrail "simpson" and "mitchell"
Can any one tell of good / bad experience with these or recommend others?
We dont want to pay top $ as the boys can get a better one when older, but needs to be
well water proof, insect proof plus good ventilation as we live in a hot area.
Have seen some shockers to put up too so that is also a consideration.
Plus light so kids can handle easy and helps with total load when travelling.
Thanks.

I got OzTrail
Mitchell Swag and was using it last year in
Simpson Desert for about 2 weeks. My 6 y.o. was helping me setting it up every night. IMHO Putting small tent poles in would be a bit of the ask from 6-8 y.o but shouldn't be a problem for 13 y.o. Packing it back would be a hardest bit for the kids - It's like rolling(packing) a 4wd self-inflated mattress, which needs a bit of strengh...

I've had
mine for 3 years and love it. Very warm and I use a sleeping bag only as a doona unless its below zero. Its seen
well over 100 uses. 4 week Simpson trip, 6 week
Cape York Trip etc.
The only issue I have had is that two of the fibreglass poles have broken off at the join. The positive thing is that they are now easier to insert in the pockets.

My swag has a fibreglass hoop at the head end and a little pole at the foot and can be tricky sometimes to put together especially if dark. I would steer clear of PVC base swags as they sweat between the matress and the base, also the matress will tend to slide around a bit if not level. If you dont get a 65mm matress you will have to put an extra thickness of foam in or wake up with a stiff back. I leave my quilt rolled up in it, this makes it a fairly big roll and takes up a lot of room, but it means everything is ready to go when you cant be stuffed at the end of a day.
