Is it possible to get a permit to travel on Mt Davies Rd between the Anne Beadel Hwy and Surveror General's Corner near Giles Meteorological Station? I know some areas are completely out of bounds.

I went there many years ago. and you really needed a reason to go.
Eg Visit a friend. or for work, scientific purposes etc.
My advice would be to ring the School at Pipalyatjara or store who may be able to give you a good reason to put on your form.
Surveyor Generals corner was a bit obscure to find unless you had local knowledge or a GPS (which we didn't).
Road condition was pretty good. Scenery was great.
Chrysaprase mine near Mt Davies/Pipalyatjara was interesting.
Especially for the 4WD.
Its great a great area.
I knew a teacher and I volunteered at the health centre and school for a few days.
Which got me my permit.
Was a Great Experience.

We went up there two years ago, inadvertantly without permits. It is one of the best trips we have ever done - very remote, huge dunes, great scenery, absolutely no people to be seen. From Anne's corner the track is often hard to find and very overgrown. I'd rate it as a pretty difficult trek, especially as help isn't going to happen along for maybe a few years. It's definitely not one for the single vehicle. Let us know how you go with permits.
