With only 4 weeks to go before we were to leave for the Flinders & a west to east Simpson crossing, found cracks in chassis rails. After talking to engineers they can not be fixed quickly, SO. Looks like a new truck.
Questions for thoes with knowledge :
1.Looking at Navara as I can get a great deal on the run out of the DT22. Any info good or bad ?
2. If I go for the Navara, where do I mount the main box of the Barrett ?
3. Will not have time to get a 2 inch lift before we go, so will this cause big with the Simpson.
4. Have been told by the dealer (Do you believe them) that if I fit a
Snorkel I will have enough room to mount aux battery in the engine bay. Has anyone donr this ?
I can get a Duel cab with Bull bar, tow bar Canopy &
snorkel fitted for $41K on the road. Best price I have come up with.
Thanks

Vince,
It should be pretty simple to check with a 4wd accessories place about the battery/
snorkel question.
You will not have any probs with ground clearance on a standard Navara in the Simpson.
Is there a V8 Disco going in your group?

Thanks Duncs
I will make some enquries re battery.
As for V8 Disco. NO
My party at this stage will be 1 Navara.
Going to the EO gathering in the Flinders and hope to pick up someone on the way. If not I will stick to the French line & they tell me it is like Pitt St during July

Hi Vince,
We have a dual cab and single cab D22 Navara as our work vehicles. We have our communications and electronic equipment mounted behind the back
seat in both which comprises of 3 transceiver bodies, fuse holders and invertor all mounted on a plywood base which is stood off from the back wall and secured by 4 bolts. Saves putting tech screws in the back of the cab and the possibility of
water and dust ingress. Looks good too.

No unfortunately. The base doesn't move from what I recall so would have to try and remove completely to gain access. Way easier to drop the back
seat forward and fit / work on equipment that way.

Hi Vince
Sorry to hear of your troubles
Have had good and bad reports on Navara's. Member Extfilm here on EO hates his. Others I have met with Navaras, think they are great. I do think they may be a bit more robust than some of the other makes around.
I wouldn't worry about the 50mm lift for the Simpson considering that Mini Mokes have been driven along the route.
Hope you get things sorted out soon.
Cheers

Thanks for that Willem,
Looks like I will be doing your trick of useing Jerry cans this trip as there is a 6 - 9 week delay in long range tanks. I will havbe a lot more space in the dule cab so this sohuld not be a prob.
Look forward to seeing you at Warrawena.

Vince,
Ask for ABN pricing. Yes I know you will probably say you don't have a business. Anyone can apply for an ABN number. We had Nissan advertised for $33k + on raods for ABN holders on TV a while back. Worth asking the question otherwise enquire at another dealer.

Easy to get ain't they, ABN that is. Did it on line yesterday & saved $2k. Needed one anyway for when I leave work in next few years as I will become a parasite called a consultant.
