I don't know the answer really as I don't have a GPS but I do know that when my wife and I were there late last year every second car on the road had a GPS on the dash...
Going by that I would assume the answer would be a definite yes but don't quote me on it..
And just going on pricing of things over there compared to here it would probably be cheaper to get the maps etc before you go.
Cheers

I use a Garmin. Plenty of Navigational maps/software for USA, Europe, Sth Africa etc. Remember, if you buy a GPS o/seas, the base map will be for that country/continent and will not be any use in Oz. You can however load Oz Navigational software onto your system regardless of the base map. Best bet, buy a suitable unit in UK/Europe. When you've fiinished with it, either sell it before you return
home, keep it to use here or sell it here on e-bay or even this
forum. Bound to be someone heading o/s in exactly the same situation as you. Have a look at this Link

They use Tom Tom a lot over there. Forget the name of the store but there is a large chain in UK specializing in gps and mapping software, magellan, garmin etc. I took my quest over there last time hoping to buy a uk map cheaper over there, not. Around $500 will get you europe 2(i think thats what it is now), price not much different in UK. Depending on your storage capacity on gps unit, you may have to have to save your aus map onto pc and load uk onto gps.
I have tried everything each time we go over, pommie friends have tom tom, advt to swap maps and no luck. Dont make the mistake of going for a thing called world maps, only basic info and not all road networks shown.
