Hi Folks,
I have a Toshiba Tecra laptop and it has a problem I can't get sorted.
It has lost all keyboard and touchpad mouse function. In an effort to sort this out I was going to try and boot it to the CD drive to gain access however because the keyboard is not responding I can't get into the CMOS setup to change the boot sequence.
All power and indicator lights are in order and the hard drive sounds OK when it starts up but other than that I am at a bit of a loss.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

Tried an external keyboard?
Might at least help you get into bios...

keyboard and mouse would tend to be connected via some cables - mostly likely those flat style ones that seem to be used in most laptops.
It is usually not that difficult to access them - sometimes you can find the schematics on the web.
Unfortunately these flat cables can get broken, meaning the whole assembly would need replacing.
That would be my guess as to what has gone wrong.
Here's an example website from a quick google: Site Link
You should be able to boot with an external keyboard/mouse if there was some value in booting from the CD, but I can't think of one.
Cheers
Andrew.

Agree it's probably physical - I'd disconnect and reconnect the keyboard

Warranty? I'd say the mobo could be fubar. Had similar with a T30 IBM stinkpad and they replaced the mainboard

Thanks mate. I pulled the bloody thing apart today and cables etc seem OK. I took the RAM out and cleraned it etc and reseated it and now the touchpad mouse is working again but still no keyboard.
I think she is going back for a repair.

I think I'd give the keyboard cables another good looking at before I did that unless you're under warranty.
They charge you a king's ransom for taking these things apart ...
