Hi Travellers
We are now in
Broome and headed North for a week or so before travelling to Rudall NP. Would appreciate any advice on tracks to take. Considering WAPETA road to CSR or alternative tracks to bring us into southern part of Rudall NP. Travelling as lone vehicle - troopy. Advice on navigation/road conditions/your experiences and alternative
routes.
Will be returning to coast at Karatha and then heading South then East again.
I will not see your comments for more than a week - so apologies now for tardy response.
Thanks all.
Chris and Dianne

Chris
Its the WAPET Road also known as Kidson Track. Its going to be 630km from last refuel at Sandfire to closest refuel at Punmu or 667 to
Kunawarritji. You can access Rudall NP from the North through Telfer
Mine
Last year Kidson Track was overgrown in
places but not too bad. Some washouts were experienced and always drive to conditions. 60kmh was the norm but manage 80kmh in some
places. There are some corrugations but not all that bad. Best
campsite is at
Razor Blade Bore and there is not much in between from Great Northern Hwy.
Cheers

Chris
From
Broome it depends how adventurous you are. I would go via the Kidson Track/Wapet Road. It is wonderfully remote.
No permit required for
Telfer Road towards Rudall River. You will get stopped at a boom
gate and depending how you handle yourself there, you may be allowed through. They normally check to see what level of gear you have and what you know about recovery and communications. Its not a big deal these days. If coming via the Wapet you may need to refuel at Punmu as the next fuel available will be at Cotton
Creek. You will have to ring them too to get permission to come to the community for fuel. They too are very receptive people and we had no hassles there.

Hi Chris, as Willem has said above. Ask the locals about the track first, there's been a few cyclones around that area since I was there in June. Some pix at home.iprimus.com.au/jimshire/pix.html

Thanks Footloose
Liked the commentary and pics. Looked like a place to see when the rain's not threatening??
Best regards

Chris, the year before I got stuck in the rain near
Papunya. So I was a bit skittish about being stranded in that lake :))
In fact I drove much of the Kidson at night because of the threatening rain, something I'd never do normally.
