Hi,
Does anyone have the VDO Dayton MS2010 gps unit that Strathfield & JB hifi have for sale, and if so could you please give me some feedback on the unit.
Cheers.

I bought one at the
Adelaide Cara/
Camping show a few weeks ago and paid a lot more than they are currently advertised by Strathfields!
However, am happy with it for my limited understanding of it's usage.
I find that I know a better route around town than it doe's but if am going to a new address I just follow it and "believe".
I have had to suppress the voice instructions as my wife has threatened to kill me for "talking to that infernal machine".
I am looking forward as
well to the responses of others as I am still in the dark about "way points" and if it is suitable for this application.
I have found that the battery is very lazy and will not stay charged for too long.
It will also take a long time to find the satellites, up to 3/4 Ks from home before they cut in.
M.

Hi M,
Thanks for the info mate i brought one yesterday, the main reason i choose this unit is because you can manually select waypoints ie: longitude and latitude co- ordinants.
When we go on trips my
camping books all have gps co-ordinants so i was looking for this feature and this unit was the only one other that true handheld gps's that does this.
Cheers mate.

Hows it going Rest Needed,
I have been looking at navigation options for a while after just having a basic GPS reciever . I ended up getting a HP PDA for a good price , it has inbuilt GPS and runs TOMTOM software normally , Lat and Long input is one option of the TOMTOM software ,so I guess whatever unit that is using TOMTOM has this option.
It also has the option of running other mapping software with maps for offroad use.

Oh Crap,
There was a TOMTOM i was looking at too, but the salesman couldn't show me any features because you need to register it first.
I ended up buying the VDO unit because it had this feature, but would have brought the TOMTOM had i have been able to see it operate and search its features.
Anyway mate do you know how to go about getting offroad maps that can be uploaded to gps.
Cheers

You should have had a look at one of these , it does all you want and more ,
www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin_quest_1.html
A bit late now but have a look at the specs , it also will record over 4000klm of track , every corner, bend,
intersection,speeds,altitude,times,dates,Co-Ords,and guide you back the same track ,
