Appears we're going to have a bit of a rough time tonight (in Melbourne) according to a friend who works for the BOM.

Last night's rain was the first consistant down pour in a long time.

I'm hearing wide spread reports the soaking has finally saturated the soil in many area of Victoria. If this is correct we may start to see some run off. Good news for the farmers.

Hi Kim. I'm confused. Are you referring to Melbourne as a village , or do you live in a small town close by, a "village"?
Yes the rains good news for you lot.
But its nothing unusual for where I am. The council here has had water restrictions for 18 out of the last 20 years around xmas. We've had water restrictions while water was running through the room I'm in now (ex double garage). Infastructure planning isn't their strong point I guess.

Sadly the pub your refering to is long gone. We now have gaming venues. Socializing has been banned down here!

LOL

Kim,

Sorry to hear that the pub is no more, Have they built a new one to replace it?

Socializing is banned you say? Crikey, I wish I'd known that before I drove all the way to Emerald last weekend. I'm sure the fun police will come looking me if they get wind that I was with a group of people who were drinking and laughing and playing loud music, all in the one place!! Must be careful next time I stick my head over the border.

Glad to hear the state is getting a bit of rain at last, although the countryside looked pretty good all the way down. You wouldn't think there was a drought at all.
Let's hope there is a lot more to come.

Cheers,

Dobbo

"a group of people who were drinking and laughing and playing loud music, all in the one place "= FUN.
Fun is against the creed of economic rationalism.
Fun is a bad debt, as it produces no profit
Fun is bad for social cohesion....only some groups can participate
Fun is banned for anyone over 30, especially married men.
Fun indicates that your disposable income is high enough to levy another tax...the Fun tax, coming to a fun place near you soon.
Fun is not enjoyable, as it isn't banned for everyone....but read my lips..we're working on it.
Signed...the fun police.

Precisely. Fun must be regulated. We can't have people running around ad hoc enjoying life!

He was right. Heavy rain during the night and gale force winds (the dog wasn't impressed). Must be Global Warming!

My ex partner lived in Wood End for a while - bloody freezing there in the winter! Reminded me, far too much, of northern Europe.

Nice in the summer but you can keep it in the winter thanks Lyn :)

Geez Kim, whereabouts are you...

Mike,

It gets so cold here that there's moss growing on my road...true!...despite that, I love it, nice and warm inside, though, can be bitter outside, even on sunny days the wind chill can be brrrrrr....end up looking like the Michelan Man most winters with the amount of layers worn....we have a friend from Ireland, he was telling us on the weekend, when he first came to Austalia he thought of settling in WA or Qld, somewhere warm, then met a Melbourne girl, and now lives in Romsey...he said he just can't get away from the cold!

Kim was obviously assuming that we all know the local history. From Wikipedia:

"Batman then sent a party up the Yarra by boat. On 8 June he wrote in his journal: "So the boat went up the large river... and... I am glad to state about six miles up found the River all good water and very deep. This will be the place for a village." This last sentence later became famous as the "founding charter" of Melbourne, but it is not at all clear whether Batman was referring to the Yarra or its tributary the Maribyrnong River. The map Batman later produced does not correspond well with the actual geography of the area."
