I remember reading a few weeks ago that one of the Roadhose's along Eyre Highway is closed for renovations for a few weeks (or months) - Is that true? If so - which one? We are leaving to cross West to East tommorow - so need to plan our refuel stops.

Yep - Yalata is closed - I drove by 2 weeks ago.
Cheapest fuel is Caltex Penong, SAFF Nundroo and Mundrabilla.
Have a good trip.

Phil
Yalata has been closed for a while. Was closed at end of July last year when we drove by. I topped up in Norseman and drove home.....1960km!!!

Cheers

Hi Willem, yeah, they are actually renovating the Yalata roadhouse, and taking a loooong time to do it. It all had a fresh coat of paint 2 weeks ago. Never know, it might open this year..... or next year.........:-)))
Diesel at Penong was $1.30 two weeks ago - same price as Port Augusta. We stood in a queue with the big trucks - they were taking $900 worth on each side. We were taking $100 total - the guy joked that every little bit helps!

Hi Jeff,
Even with yatala/yalata closed the distance between fuel stops is not huge. Most vehicles with std tanks should be able to bypass every second roadhouse with no trouble.
If you are in doubt, fill up at every roadhouse despite the cost.

Happy travelling
