I have been posting on another thread about GPS etc but would like some
feedback to use as a comparison on these two units if possible. My apologies if you have read a similar thread elsewhere... yes it was probably me exploring all avenues before parting with my money!
Ipaq 5765 PDA has a 3 1/2" screen and all the PDA functions and can be loaded with off road mapping etc to use apart from the street by street navigation.. but has other functions that I probably would never use. price $600 with street navigation inbuilt
Nuvi660 has a bigger screen 4.3" and from what I can tell has the street navigation and can be loaded with off road mapping as
well.. benefit of this unit to my eye is the FM receiver is inbuilt so voice and MP3 can be tuned through the stereo.. price $1000 with street navigation.
Can anyone give me some clarity on the benefits of one over the other?
Thank you in advance.

You can get the Ipac for as low as $485 on line, I've been told you won't lose your programs if the unit goes flat. You can also run Ozi for country roads, The Nuvi 660 starts at $660 online and has the blue tooth hands free feature for receiving mobile calls, the Off road maps won't be as good as the Raster maps for Ozi.
These units are very different from each other, your comparing an apple to an
orange

I agree. Difficult to compare the two. I would never use the functions of a PDA (my phone holds all the numbers I need) so I have never seriously looked at them.
However I do have a Nuvi 660 and I love it. Just about the most relied upon feature is the spoken street names. It is terrific. The map display is the best I have seen for daylight viewing too. Bluetooth is excellent. You can upload your phonebook entries to it and when someone rings their name is displayed on the screen. FM transmitter is good too but I don't use it much.
I have to say that whoever programed the Aussie girl's voice had a sense of humour. I took a back track once and she was trying to get me to do a U turn. Eventually she said: There IS a BETTER way !! Hands on hips; the whole attitude thing. I nearly ran off the road laughing.

You get a oz girls voice on the 660? I have a nuvi 300 and you get a yank or pom chick. Bugger maybe I should have paid the extra 700 bucks lol, great unit but.

The Garmin Nuvi 669 has an FM transmitter, not FM receiver , and it does have the abillity to display off road mapping , T4A , MP3 player, plus bluetooth Hands free system for phone, I use
mine with 2 car radios installed so I can still listen to an AM station and not lose the signals from the GPS. also if you type in any of these names it will find the nearest Dealer as to where yo are anywhere in Australia, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Ford, Holden, Jeep, Chrysler, Landrover, Volvo, Suzuki, there are litterally 1000s upon 1000s of points and businesses,
just found this new site too with some great Custom Points ,

I just went down to the local JB Hi Fi and picked up the Nuvi660... thank you to all those who helped me out..
Can anyone tell me though with the oztopo maps will they work if I get a disc from someone else and load it onto my SD card or is it something that each time the disc is sold it has to be registered to that user and that is it??
If it is something where I can use someone elses disc has anyone got a spare? lol
cheers and thanks for your input... now I just have to work out how to use the thing! :)
