Sleeping bag liners. any good?

I use a liner in my single sleeping bag and find no troubles, also keeps it cleaner and you are warmer. Haven't used a double when the SWMBO comes we're then in the CT.

thanks. Do you just leave it in the bag and roll it all up? Does it stay flat or bunch up? I'm looking for the lazy bed set up.

We made our own liner from 2 flat flannette double sheets for our swag. We have a double swag made by Bob Burrage that has the wool lining stiched into the swag. We have found that the liner keeps the wool lining clean and usually don't need extra blankets etc.

The liners are pretty simple to make and ours is left in the swag when we roll it up, so as to answer your question Yes they do work and you can roll them up in the sleeping bag/ swag

Like everything they vary in size. For a single, get 'YHA size' not simply 'single' and it will be a bit bigger and more comfy for most. Silk is the No1 choice - warmer in winter and cooler in summer, packs far smaller, dries quicker etc., but is a bit dearer.

For douible sizing I would ask around and get the biggest dimensions + quality.

You keep the sheet outside to air it when not in use, but silk squashes small as said earlier.

Liners are good because they keep the bag cleaner and keep you warmer but I hate them with a passion :) and will not use one because I get so tangled up in it I cannot sleep.

Noticed you asked about doubles: never used one, probably wouldn't tangle as much but as one of you turned I suspect the liner would pull on the other person and maybe wake them?

Only problem is if one of you likes to stick a foot out for temperature control - just a bit harder with a liner.

We don't use one but got one each for the kids, I stuff them in the sacks with the sleeping bags - rolling up takes too long. It's quick enough to roll out the sleeping bag and shove the liner inside - or like another poster said get into the liner then the sleeping bag.

We tend to make the bed up with bed sheets to protect the mattress and sometimes have a two sheets inside the zipped up sleeping bags as well (one top one bottom), however they are generally left as is in the camper trailer so equivalently a lazy set up however tends to need a bit of straightening if you toss and turn.

I agree the silk liners are great and also dry very quickly should you need to give it a wash on the road. Cotton isn't too bad if you're not willing to lay out the extra $$ for the silk.

Thanks to everyone for their ideas. It sounds like theire are mixed opinions which doesn't surprise me.
