Last week we finally picked up our new C/T. Over the weekend I did some exploring over and around it and found some things I am not sure of.
The first thing I noticed that the gas regulator is mounted below the outlet of the gas bottle, I think I read somewhere on here that the gas regulator should be mounted above the gas bottle outlet. Could any of the gas fitters enlighten me.
I also started fitting the solar regulator and while chasing all the cabling I found that the negative cable from the Anderson Plug is connected directly to the chassis while the positive is connected to the battery via a Voltage Dependant Relay. As an ex Techo I have always thought that the path of least resistance was that with the minimum connections. I am fairly sure that I have seen the same thing on here, so that’s a question for all the eleccoes.
Thanks in advance
Regards
Rocky

Hi Rocky,
I am a personal fan of running all cabling back to the battery and going a size or 2 bigger than I need. This eliminates connections becoming resistive due to corrosion and also makes it easier tracing power faults as you are following a black cable instead of chassis rails, bonding cables, bolts etc that would make up the chassis return path.
If the chassis and body is totally isolated from your batteries (ie no accessory or cable is earthed to it) then you don't have to muck around with disconnecting batteries if you need to do any welding on the camper or if you put an ammeter in to monitor current flow - just put a shunt in the neg terminal close to the battery.
Regards
David

As a gas fitter I would recommend the regulator be fitted above the cylinders.

G'day Pat, Could you please explain to us non gas fitters why we should place the regulator above the cylinder.
Thanks

I am of a different opinion, in relation to the negative earthing for a trailer.
Providing the main earth connection from the Anderson connector, or battery, to the trailer's chassis is sound, there is no reason to concern yourself.
The "return path" will be as good as a separate wire, or wires. A trailer's chassis will give as good a conductivity as a separate wire would.
