Hi all. I have just plucked up the courage to ask this. Do heat beads go off?
I have a bag of good quality ones, Been in the shed about 9 mts. Tried to use the Cobb yesterday but could not get them going. Tried ignighting them with fire lighters today. still problems to get going.
cheers Brian.
Go easy

Hi Brian,
i find that they do go off after the bag has been opened, i always put remaining beads into a sealed container. I am not sure, but i think they pick up moisture from the air which makes them harder to light. Same with fire lighters once packet has been opened they tend to dry out abit so they do not last as long.

That could be it David. The bag has been opened and have used some awhile ago.
Thanks Brian

Brian
I had a similar problem not long ago. But fortunately one of the mates had some new self igniting beads. Once i lit a couple of those they generated enough heat to kick
mine off and everything was fine. My fire lighters were old and had been exposed to air so they had become useless and the heat beads had similarly been exposed for some time. I found they would still work but took a lot more work to get them started.

We use heat beads regularly and yes they do go off if not kept in an air tight container after the bag is opened. Also the cheap brands do not work as
well as the more expensive ones.
We always use easy/light heat beads in our cooker as they light easy and last for hours, usually enough to do a baked dinner in
camp oven then to do a damper in same plus heat water after for washing up etc.
We always keep unused beads in an airtight container.

My experience with the easy light heat beads has been less burning time and more beads needed to get the desired temperature. May be worth another try.
