Iam planning on a trip soon that involves a fair amount of travel on corrugated tracks.
I was going to carry my original Toyota shockers as spares (have O.M.E. suspension on now) I wondered if these would be ok to use , given the O.M.E. springs have a bit of extra travel over standard?
Another question i have about shock absorbers is if using a spare which is different to whats being replaced should both sides be replced at the same time?
Cheers
Tony

I also have a 79series, and do exactly what you suggest. My OME shocks are fine after 40,000k of trips and corrugations. And you can't get a more reliable shock than the factory Tokico Toyota shocks. The OMEs have 40mm more travel - going back to factory shocks won't matter. Technically you should do the same to both sides - but if it were me, I'd tend to just replace whats necessary, and correct it properly back home.

Phil
Thanks for your information,it will save me having to buy spare OME shocks.I thought the originals may top out with the extra travel of the OME springs but good to know originals will be ok to use if i have to.
Cheers.

Doug,
I have only had them on for around 15000k but so far am very happy. Ride and handling are a big improvement. Will be interesting to see how they stand the test of time and the trip i'm doing soon.
I am using the light springs in combination with air bags which seem to work well.

Changed to OME shocks and springs and damper about 50K ago. Best money I've spent on the machine. The ride and handling on and off the tar has been totally transformed.

You as a user can now understand why I tell everyone OME when they make a query , My rears are massive on the troopy, more leeves than the trayback and yet the handling is superp, Makes me wonder why Manufacturers don't fit them as standard,

Only time it would matter is if you were doing some 4wding, one side would have good articulation and the other would have less, but wouldn't affect the handling of the 4x4 in normal driving ( except for a different "feel" to the end that the "odd" shock was fitted )

As said, not the ideal setup, but will get you home no probs !!
