Hi, i have recently bought an engel 40L and would like to know if it will be fine to bolt it to the tray of my ute permanently? I have heard that water is not good for the engels, but not sure whether to believe this. If water affects them, i will have a canvas cover made up to fit over it.
Thanks in advance guys. Brett

I doubt an Engel would take kindly to being drenched on a regular basis (unlike my aged 3 way which doesn't mind at all :) as it has some electronics inside it. Also, if you make a cover, keep in mind the fridge has to dissipate heat so ensure your cover doesn't prevent ventilation to the fridge.

Water affects everything, doesn't matter what brand, if water gets in to the electrics, then you have trouble !!!
A canvas cover would be the go, just make sure you have room for air to get to the vent area but still stopping water from splashing in !!!

There are plenty of Engle's in the bush which spend their entire lives on the rear tray of a ute. They usually have no protection of any kind and work perfectly year after year.

Not only do they work when wet but they still go even when under water for 15 minutes ;-) Certainly not recomended as any electrical connection will be subject to a bit of corrosion afterwards. The Engels do have less electronics than some others but I'd still make up some sort of cover for the top.
Cheers Craig.............

Brett Patrol,
My 40l Engel sat on the back of the Hilux for 2 years without protection. It does have the standard cover but that was all. It now stands proudly on the back of the Navara and I have the torneo over it which dosen't really keep the weather out that much. It has never missed a beat and I love having a cold beer after work. Only problem I have had is somebody on the site has knocked a few bourbons out of it. I now have the fridge bolted to the tray. Locked to the backing board and have the cover locked now too.....
Mate go for it......... My engel has loved it so far :)
