A begging question but does anyone out there have an MLR SP 24 hand held GPS or more specifically the manual that accompanied this device.
I have had
mine for about 7 years using it sipmly for lat/long navigation but now wish to connect it to the laptop via the serial port for OziExp type mapping. I have the cable that was supplied new with the unit which plugs to the back of the GPS but the cable end was not wired to a serial port connector. Instead it simply had a schematic of what colour wire goes to which pin in the plug, buried in the instruction manual.
As I've put my manual in a safe place, which means it is now very very very safe, I wonder of anyone can help me with the detail of which wire goes to which pin.

See info below off the internet........hope it helps. Geoff
In a recent message, Me2aswellwrote.

The basic cable is as follows:
DB9 PC PIN SP24 PIN COLOUR OF WIRE SP24
2 3
Orange
3 4 Yellow
5 5 Blue
The socket on the back of the SP24 is arranged thus:
EXT ANT POWER SUPPLY PIN 1 BROWN
POWER SUPPLY + (10 TO 20 VOLTS) PIN 2 RED
POWER SUPPLY - PIN 5 BLUE
NMEA OUTPUT PIN 3
ORANGE
NMEA INPUT PIN 4 YELLOW
The pins are numbered clockwise starting with 1 which is to the left of the larger of the three notches (the bottom pin, if you hold the SP24 upright in front of you).
Just repeating what it says in the manual, can't vouch for the info, I'm afraid. Hope this helps.

Geoff
Thanks for the input and seems to confirm that I need to learn the Google Mastering a bit more.
Have had a good look at the MLR and all this seems to make sense when I look at 9pin serial port configurations for data connections so will have a play tonight when I have some time and see if the whole thing works.
Of course, next I will be on here pleading for help with OziExplorer, but we will come to that hurdle when I get there.
Regards
John
