I ran the sub tank out of fuel the other day on my 80 series cruiser. To my amazement when I went to fill it up it only took 50ltrs. This would seem to indicate that there are 20ltrs sitting in the bottom of the tank un useable, as it is supposed to be a 70ltr tank. Does anyone know if this is true?? Also to me this would seem a bit excessive any ideas on how to fix it?? Because even an extra 10ltrs would get me a fair bit further down the dusty road.

I beleive that my sub tank on my '91 80 Series is only a 50 litre tank plus 95 litre main tank giving me a total of 145 litres. This is from either my owers manual or the Gregory's manual.

Thanks for that guys. Much appreciated. I have the mis-printed owners manual. That will teach to read instructions....haha.

Also saved me alot of work trying to fix something that wasn't broke.

I read in my Prado manual that it automatically drains a small amount of fuel as you drive into the sub tank so as to encourage you to occasionally use the sub tank. this keeps the fuel pump lubricated. Don't know if its the same with yours. Cheers Hardy

I had the same prob with my G U Patrol ute , 90 L main tank , 80 L sub tank . I couldnt get the last 20 or so Lt out . I had a long range main tank fited ( 147 L) and now can pump the sub tank to enpty , no worries . It has somthing to do with the level of the flot in the main tank i think , as i still have to run the main tank down to near empty to do it .Why go overseas when you can Exploroz

Rox,

Tojo's rely on ample fuel to lubricate, and cool the rotary fuel pumps on 75's, 80's etc. You run the risk of stuffing up your pump, if you do this too often. BIG DOLLARS!

Where the hells Yadie Ck? Hooroo...

No worries, Rox. Looks like we'd better put Yardie Ck on the retirement schedule, there's certainly plenty to see over on the west coast. Hooroo...

Be thankful you havn;t got a GU patrol wagon. The sub tank on it only seems to hold 30 L. Seems pretty pointless to me.
