Hi
Just fitted BFG 265/70/17 to new prado. The different tread profile makes it difficult to get the spare back in place. Removed the plastic behind the wheel on the back door and used a couple of washers as spacers (where the wheel bolts onto the door) to move the spare far anough away from the door so it does not rub.
What have others done to overcome this problem as I believe this is a common tyre conversion.
cheers

Do a search on this
forum as there have been lots of good suggestions for '
home-made' solutions to this problem. Personnally, I searched ebay for 'wheel spacers' and found a number of suppliers for alloy spacers for around $20 (i think) a pair. I needed both spacers to clear the door. Whilst the
home-made suggestions seemed just as good, it was just easier to buy the ebay ones.

I've done exactly the same as what you've done. I also spaced out the rim/tyre by using 4 washers per stud. Just got back from a cruise out in the scrub and all seems to be still in place. I have heard of nylon blocks being used to achieve the same outcome only they don't rust (probably better than washers).
Anyhow best of luck.

A 2 pack of chopping boards from the nastiest $2
shop will get you out of trouble.
Used the same on my Patrol after finding out the ARB equivalent was nearly $100.

I,ve fitted wheelnuts to the three bolts that hold your spare on! They space the wheel out 12mm and the tyre clears the door easily.
