One of my maps shows a road (track) from Lajamanu to
Warrego near
Tennant Creek. Anyone travelled it and know if it would be quicker than going west to east from Kalkarindji, up the Buchanan, down the Stuart to the Barkly?

You require a permit and according to a recent report here no permits are being issued due to the condition of the track.

Go via Wave
Hill to Top Springs then down the Buchanan HWY. Faster for sure.
Looked at doing it last year. Was advised by the roadhouse not to bother as the condition was very very bad. You also need a permit. I then checked the and found a post about a bloke who did in in 2003. He staked 3 tires in 40 km. Since the track is around 350KM from
Tennant Creek to Lajamanu it would be a brave move.
For 100% accurate info, contact the community local council on www.lajamanu.nt.gov.au/home/contact_us . I did this last year when I ended up travelling up from Rabbit Flat to
Darwin. They were very helpful and friendly.
Hope this helps

Edward
I was at Lajamanu, Yarralin, Top Springs and Kalkarindji last week. All the roads were in good condition without any problems.
I did not drive any further south than Lajamanu so I cannot accurately say what the road conditions are like. There were however a lot of 4WD vehicles and camper trailers travelling along that road.
Lajamanu is on Aboriginal land and a permit is required to visit. Permit applications should be lodged with the Central Land Council office in
Alice Springs.
Lajamanu has a store where you can purchase good quality food. Fuel is available and last week diesel was $1.68 per litre.
Alcohol is banned and there are severe penalties.
There is also a
Police Station at Lajamanu. Phone 8975 0622. A lot of information is available on the NT Govt website.
