I have a HJ60 Cruiser and I want to replace the front seats to ones that are a bit more comfortable. Has anyone done this with theirs and, if so, what did they go with. I realise I may have to change some of the mountings. Any feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Greenant,
We have a 79 series and put in some
suspension seats from Stratos. They have evened out the bumps quite
well and are comfortable with good back support. The price is rather high though in total about $3000 for the two. I figure you only have one back and intend to look after it as some of the roads we go on are less than smooth.

Yes I have changed both front seats the passenger is a stratos I bought of eBay for a $100 and the drivers is a 100 series
seat a mate gave me for nothing.
As for fitting I modified the original mounting brackets and fitted 5mm plate steel over them and bolted with high tensile bolts.
All the best
Eric

I just happen to have a pair of
seat mounts for recaro type seats to suit a 60 series toyota. Would make a conversion simple if you get the seats for the right price. Can't go past second hand recaro's. they are fully rebuildable. If you are interested and postage isn't a problem (price wise) we could help each other out. I am after $50 each for them, fully engineered and look brand new. Cheers Eric.

Greenant, I have just replaced mine in my HJ61.
I think it boils down to personal preference in comfort, and especially finance.
I would have loved Stratos, but out of my price range.
So, I visited quite a few wreckers and actually sat in a lot of different cars to try their seats.
My thinking was that a lot of wreckers have seats in their showroom to look at or sit in, but they are not mounted in a vehicle at the height you woud normally sit at.
Sitting in a
seat on the old concrete floor is not going to be the same as the right height in the car.
I also took the measurements of the width of my tracks to see that it wasn't a major problem fitting them.
Some vehicles have quite unusual mountings for their seats (SAAB etc) and as much as I liked their seats, it was too much hassle to mount them.
Put your butt in a few different seats and see what fits your shape.
I finished up with a pair out of a Skyline, and there is plenty of adsjustment for my shape.
Peugeot 405 and 505 have great seats but i couldn't find any in good condition.

Greenant, just in case you are interested, I have 2 flofit seats (same as recaro, but built in US) to suit your car as
well, these are brown in color, same as the toyota brown from the 60 series I believe, have high bolsters on
seat base and back, adjustable
seat length, drivers
seat has adjustable lumbar support. They are in as new condition and are very comfortable. S'pose it all depends on where you are located, I am in
Melbourne. Let me know if you are interested I am about to list them for sale elsewhere. They do suit the above adaptors. Cheers Eric.
