G'day
Can anyone advise on what is involved in fitting a battery pack after delivery of van .
I find the quoted price for a battery pack on a van we are considering too high at
$ 1000.
So what is included apart from the
smart charger ,
Battery
Battery box
some wireing , fuse or circuit breaker
Where does wireing from battery pack tap into van circuit ?
If it can all be done in the boot area then I can purchase those items at a better price and wire it in cheaper than that
Have I overlooked anything ?
The caravan features list lists the following as standard
12volt halogen lighting
12volt range hood
12 volt
water pump
so I figure that these must get a 12 volt feed from somewhere in std. van without battery pack

Hi Garry,
I would suggest you buy a book by Collyn Rivers called "Motorhome Electrics & Caravans Too" from his site Site Link
He is extremely knowledgable and details everything there is to do with caravan electrics.
This will give you the ideas and inspiration to build a system that meets your needs.
Regards
David

G'day
Well the caravan is on order and decided to go with the offer of ( Wired for battery pack ) I will still have to fit a battery and smart charger .
I guess the worst that can happen is the wiring may be on light side and replaced later.
Now a question for Derek or anyone with good knowledge of battery's
Which Battery to buy ?
I have a boat with 60hp outboard and would like to use the same battery for power in van and as sole battery in the boat daylight use only .( not at same time of course .)
Some info to assist in getting right advice
Power in van from battery will only be used for 2 or 3 nights before access to 240 volt supply for charging
Will not be running 12 volt fridge or cooking off the battery in this case mainly for lighting ,
water pump and possibly some TV if possible
If wanting to stay away from mains power for longer than this then be buying solar panel at later date.
Assume battery will not be charged from vechile during this time
Will an AGM battery be the best option for power in van and starting that outboard
and what size ?
