I picked my new GXL TDV8 trayback up today. These are my very early impressions and I only have my 1994 80 series TD to compare.

Mucho power. Really and truly. Great gobs of it (and the odo reads only 49kays). Much quieter. Lights are much better. Basic interior but I feel comfortable with that. I am 6'4" and I fit in OK.

And I even got the wheels to spin. Mind you I was parked on an incline on wet bitumen but my 80 would have told me to pith off.

I could quite comfortably start off in second, accelerate to 50 and then change straight into 5th. I won't make a habit of it though.

2100rpm at 100kays. The 80 sat on 2550rpm.

Again I must stress: very early impressions from a happy buyer.

Hi Gone Bush
I know where you are coming from ??
I traded from a 100'series Stnd Diesel to a 79 series TD - Oct '06
The power difference is "OOOOORsum"
I can imagine how you feel !!!!!!!!! More "OOOOOOOORsum" !!!
Yes the creature comforts are not quite the same "BUT" now
mum and me are on our own we only need 2 seats and a camper on
the back (same creature comforts) and not having to tow a camper trailer
with all the gear to fit a Family,
IT IS FANTASTIC - Believe it or not we do arrive at the end of the day
more relaxed ???
Now have, cruise, it will hold over most hills, minimum gear changes
I"M rapt !!!!!!!
BEST OF ALL I have traded my tinny in for a real boat
Got the best of both worlds, comforts of a camper and a "BIGGER BOAT"
Lifes Good !!!!!!!!!
Enjoy your new TRUCK I'm sure you will
Cheers
Bazza

Thanks Barry. I chose a timber floor on the tray. Talk about your ageing bogan.

I will be putting an alloy canopy (like from here: www.roscos.com) about 1 metre down the tray with some drawers (from here: www.4wdinteriors.com) and then a canvas canopy to the rest.

Just the 2 of us now, like you. Time to spend the kids' inheritance eh? I've got a Pioneer CT and will be picking up a Trakmaster caravan in Aug. I'd like to keep both but we'll see what happens. I'll probably get attached to the shower and dunny in the van and end up looking down my nose at the camper.

Still, they both have their place.

Good morning Gone bush
I have a new vehicle in the work shop at the moment having the cab lengthened and also the chassis along with some major suspension work .
Could you tell me the distance between the back of the bull bar and the bonnet.
I see you have a Toyota winch bar and i was getting a ARB winch bar and was hoping i had room to fit a fold HF aerial between the bar and bonnet.
Enjoy your new toy Allan

Sorry Allan, the photo is just one I lifted off the Toyota website. I haven't had my bullbar fitted yet. It's going to be an alloy bar and Toyota don't take delivery til next month.
