A year or two ago 4WD Monthly did an article on the Landcruiser LSD and it mentioned how much shim to add and/or what torque is required to 'slip' once.
I went though the pile of magazines and found everything but the article.
Has anyone got, seen, remember the specs or even played around with different settings. No point reinventing the wheel.

G'Day anleky, On our previous troopcarrier we had limited slip front and rear. As for actual torque ratings or anything I can't really help you. The shim sizes range from A to M. In our front diff we had M in our rear diff we had K [to enable a bit more slippage on general driving] shimming the diffs did make a great difference and with our old troopy we did some pretty serious tracks. But our new troopy has factory front and rear lockers and they are amazing. hope this helps a bit. Cheers Troopytrek.

dunno if you are doing it yourself but if you are going to reomove the diff and muck about with it i would compare the price to a locker as it will be far more effective

I will do it myself.
I can't justify the price for the airlockers.

Do you really need airlockers ? What about other ways to go ? Several years ago I enquired about my 80 series rear diff. To have it rebuilt was around $4-500. To buy a slip diff was around $650 at the time.

Perhaps if U email to the mag they can help you as I have seen letters to the editor requesting location of articles. Regrettfully they dont have them indexed but apparently are looking at doing so

Well....
Checked out what shims were avalable and only 4 options A,B,C,D.
Measured the wear as per the W/
Shop manual and went alittle tighter.
Put the diff back in and went to test it in a sand
hill and Bang the front diff Sh1t it self.
Pulled the front diff out, It had striped one spider and a bit of the spider went into the crown wheel and pinion and broke a tooth on that.
Why Toyota put a small 2 spider gear in the front and a 4 in the rear has got me stuffed?
So I will have to eat my words 'that i can't justify a locker.' At least any Locker or LSD has 4 spiders.
Toyota locker on the way.
