Well Bundy and Rick decided to
camp out to night so I'll give a brief summary of the days events. Most of us met up in Byford for the drive down to Dwellingup and
Nanga. Met the others in Dwellingup 7 vehicles all up. Matt acted as tour guide and impressed us with his knowledge of the area. He soon had us in Low range and up a slight to moderate challenging
hill. I was pleased to say that my Terracan cruised up easily dumping the sand from last weekends fun up in the Pinjar dunes as I went.
The other guys with the higher vehicles as you'd expect cruised up also.
Directly opposite where we came out on a main track was an extremely deep and rutted track that only
Ross in his lifted cruiser could tackle. Alas he managed 1/2 way up before he had to reverse back down and suffering some minor panel damage. I would of been lucky to get 10 foot up the track let alone 100m like
Ross managed. The video turned out
well and will post on YouTube sometime tomorrow.
From here Matt found us another
hill to climb this time far more challenging with not all of us having a go. Getting to the top wasn't so bad just had to pick the right line, climb over deep ruts and dodge rocks and trees. what goes up must come down and automatics are just not built for comfortable crawling down steep slippery hills. Needless to say the brakes got a fair bit of use. Only bashed the back diff once.
After that bit of fun we meandered around the tracks having fun in some deep puddles. Word of warning here some of the puddles in
Nanga at the moment can be deadly. A couple looked very innocuous but in fact where very deep and if hit at speed would do some serious damage to your vehicle and possibly you.
We had lunch at an idyllic spot except previous campers instead of carting there rubbish out had tried to burn it hence the site took on the scene of a rubbish tip.
One of our group bagged up the worst of it for proper disposal.
As the sun set the majority of us headed back to
Perth. Leaving Darren aka Bundy to freeze his what knots off over night.
BTW Tom's Crossing is closed.
Excellent day guys thanks to Bundy for the organisation and Matt for his navigation. Great to meet up with a welcoming like minded group of people, who just wanted to meet new people and get out there and have fun.
