We have just become the owners of a second hand 4WD camper trailer that needs some work done. We need to add power. Any suggestions? We will be doing trips during school holidays (2 week trips) and then a 3-4 month trip around Australia in a couple of years (using mostly Nat
Park campgrounds). We are intending on buying a 40-50 litre 240v/12v fridge, probably use about 3 hours per day on a 12v light, and maybe a T.V and/or small m/wave. Should we go battery pack (ie Thumper) or deep cycle battery/orbital-spiral battery. Also how long does it usually take to recharge these.
A solar panel came with the camper trailer - Phillips 2.5Amps Peak Power current and 16.8 Volt Peak Power Voltage. We have had this hooked up to a 12V battery but seem to be getting no charge - the Amps seem a bit low to be doing much charging - any help?

Hi bradley
Read the camper charging article to get some basic idea's.
Buy a digital multimeter with an amp function at Dick Smith for $20.00 and then give me a ring to work out what is needed.

Forget the small microwave unless you want to carry something like 400 A/Hs of deep cycle batteries.

I agree, forget the microwave, substitute a box of matches and a
camp oven. If you feel the need to use a microwave it shows you haven't unwound properly, you are on holiday, relax, smell the roses (or spinifex) take your time. Microwaves are altogether such 'hasty' devices - you don't need them.
