Dear All
Is it feasible to plan on doing
Winton to
Alice Springs via the Plenty Hwy in two days? (Patrol + Camper trailer)
If so, where's a good spot to pull up for the night?
Thanks and regards
Spliney

Hi Spliney,
1200km, 600 kms a day for 2 days with overnight at
Tobermorey (1/2 way). 10 hr days including stops, but why would you? Those who are under pressure to a timetable are usually the ones who roll the trailer on the dirt. Relax and see a bit more. IMHO
Cheers

Have to agree with Ian as usual. I've done
Boulia to Alice in a day, but it was a very long day and I was sha&&ed by the time I got into Alice at 9pm.
Much nicer to stop at Tobermary , enjoy a pleasant evening and take a bit more time seeing the country.
Too many people speed across the Plenty. The results can often be seen by the roadside.

Ian
Understand your sentiments entirely - school hol trip confined to 2 weeks out of
Brisbane. Will take it carefully!
Thanks for the advice.

Spliney,
If you're going to
Winton, I can recommend you take the time to visit the Dinosaur Trackways at
Lark Quarry..... I guess it depends on everyones individual tastes of course, but we (2 adults 2 teens) found it extremely fascinating! The Matilda Centre is also worth a look, but if you "do" the Stockmans Hall Of Fame in
Longreach 1st, then I would say one or the other, we did both but were "museumed" out by the time we got to the second one. Lots to see and do out in that area!
Have a good trip, lucky bugger!!!!!!!
Cheers
Brian

G'Day Spliney,
Just got to Alice from
Boulia towing Kedron Van. Easy run to
Tobermorey good track, stayed o/n there. Next day could easy have done it to Alice ,but camped at a
fossicking field east of Gemtree. Road from
Tobermorey fairly corrogated in
places but mostly good.
Regards,
John
