One of my headlights (Low Beam) has just blown, and I have found that they are a sealed beam (1997 80 Series). I can just imagine how much an original part from Toyota is, so I am looking at alternatives. I have read about systems like the ones ARB market, that include high power leads, but I am not sure I want to spend that sort of money at the moment. Can anyone recommend a good all round light (Non-Sealed beam) that I can use, and possibly use this as a step up to a full blown upgrade of the system at a latter date. Thanks.

You can buy generic semi-sealed beams at most auto parts stores. I was quoted $100 for a pair (I assume without bulbs) from a local independent retailer. Try your local Repco or equivalent. I have seen them on eBay from time to time for cheaper, too...

Stan,
I have an old set of outer lights off my old 92 80 series, these have replaceable bulbs. If your interested in buying these give me a ring on 0411 279 648. I'm in Central Qld.

Cheers Drew

P.S. There is nothing wrong with these, I upgraded the lights 10 years ago.

they are just a rectangular sealed beam light and can be picked up any where for $25 TOPS or spend about $150 and buy 2 halogen light assembly's and replace both the hi/low lights and you will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
repco, supa chaep, everyone who sells car stuff will be able to source the lights you need, If you don't have to coin to spend on supa doopa lighting systems INC just stick to 65/100w and they will work just fine.
I did on the 80s I used to own and never had an issue

I did the same - I bought the rectangle inserts from Repco and a set of 65/100W Navra globes and fitted them myself.

Its not a hard job to do just a little bit fiddly if you haven't done it before as there is a little clip on the side behinde the indicator light that you need to press with a small srew driver to be able to remove the head light surrounds.

Read your Toyota manual and it will explain it better.

Gday,
As just suggested, change over to Halogen lights and you just replace bulbs.
Its not as expensive one you do the initial change.
Cheers

repco sell sealed beams. Be careful because sealed beam have different pin orientation to halogen globe lights....wreckers will also have many...old coronas had sealed beam rectangle

Hey Stan

Are you sure you have blown the bulb, It could be the 10 amp fuse as these lights have a fuse for each one.

Look in the fuse box under the bonnet.

Just a thought Steve.

Thanks for that, I will have a look tonight. If the Fuse had blown wouldn't I have lost both Low and High beam. The high beam still works on this light, it's just the Low beam that has gone.
