Hi all

i have shared previously my experince with my water tank PostID: 46193 but the water tanks i have now has no baffles, so i decided to custom-make a water tank for my new Nissan Patrol GU and the dimensions are as follows:

Length 950 mm
Height 530 mm
Width (Up 200 mm) & (Down 350 mm)

It holds 135 liters and will be placed behind the middle seat.

Please note that it has only one baffle and the baffle’s dimensions are as follows:

Height 450 mm
(Water tank height is 530 mm)
Width 200 mm down & 100 mm up
(water tank width 350 mm down & 200 mm up)
Length 130 mm
(water tanks length 950 mm)
Please note that the length of the baffle is not an important factor,
as far as I know, since it plays no role to reduce the water
slopping around , all what we need here is just a barrier.

My mate at the water tank shop told me that the baffle has to be hollow, because he will make the tank from Polyethylene. Since the baffle is hollow, I will lose about 9 liters. That’s why I want to make only one baffle to reduce the amount of liters lost by making the baffles.

So what you guys think about having only one baffle in the above-mentioned tank? Is one baffle enough for my tank to prevent or at least minimize water from slopping around?

Replies are highly appreciated.

Many thanks.

Saudi, forgive me if I misunderstood, but it seems to me that you answered your own question. You said - Please note that the length of the baffle is not an important factor, as far as I know, since it plays no role to reduce the water
slopping around , all what we need here is just a barrier.
I wouldn't use a hollow baffle that reduced the capacity by 9 litres. I'd be looking for a shet of some sort. Actually for that amount of water I'd use 6 X 25l. drums. If one leaked I'd still have lots left. If your tank leaks you lose the lot!! Drums, being square can be strapped together and are therefore stable.

Hi AndrewX

Thanks for your reply

In my case, a hollow baffle is a must. The guy at the water tank told me that since water tank will be made out of Polyethylene, the baffle has to be hollow from an engineering point of view, and it can not be done otherwise.

I have decided to give it a try and make the tank but my concerns are, if one baffle with the above-mentioned dimensions is enough, and if it will reduce or at least minimize the water from slopping around.

As far as drums are concerned, I’m not convinced about them, because I think they take up more space than the water tank which can be slided behind the middle seat and also holds more water capacity. You can see why I think water tanks that could be silded behind the middle seat don’t take up a lot of space. If you take a look at my current water tank that is installed in my car, check this website that has my car photos:
