Paps
I am considering buyer a tray back camper some way down the track and am particularly interested in the Piggy Back. Does anyone have any experience with the Piggy Back or any tray back camper for that matter. Cheers, Paps.

Hi Paps, my mates name is George and his email address is:
Gwillanski at raytheon dot com dot au
There is also a new camper on the market called the Outback Tray Topper. Costs about 17k and weighs 320kg dry - made by Outback Campers in Victoria. July 2007 4WD Monthly has a write up on this unit.
One thing to consider with any Tray Camper is the carrying of the spare tyre/s if you have no undertray stowage for a spare. This is how I solved my problem as I had no provision for a spare under the tray.

Best regards.

Here's a better
pic Paps. They are cantilvered so even my dimunutive wife can get a tyre on/off the back (does wonders for my back, too).

No problem Paps. Although the GU ST is more modern in the cabin, don't discount the Cruiser - it has a longer wheel base to start with and GVM is higher. On a recent desert trip with two tray top 79 series there wasn't much difference in fuel economy between us - between 12.5 and 13.5 L/100 - I was the 13.5. Just came back from
Geelong to
Melbourne, sat on 100kph, had the Carry Me Camper on the back and managed 13 l/100 so I don't thinkl the old GU 4.2 is as bad as many make out.
At the end of the day it's all about choice. I chose the GU for the reasons you stated (as it's our daily driver as
well) and then we decided on a camper.
Good luck with it all and keep us posted!
