I have just purchased a new van, (ATM 2700)and looking for a Landcruiser to tow it, I have been told that the self levelling on the sahara intermittently cuts in and out while towing, causing the van to dip--has or is anybody aware of this problem?

I've heard that somewhere too.
The problem seems to be that the self levelling
suspension cannot raise a lowered rear end if there's a lot of weight on it.
I read it a while ago when someone reported on a different
forum that if the Sahara was fully seated, i.e. every
seat occupied, and the
suspension was in the lowered state, the SLS could not raise it up to normal ride height. Which was a tad embarassing to the owner.
Maybe go and look up the specs for the self levelling
suspension - there may be a maximum load at which it will not raise the rear.

I have a Disco 3 which uses air to level the
suspension. The whole thing is automated. In the Owner's Manual it states quite clearly that vans fitted with any form of levelling or stabilising devices should not be towed by the D3.
I'm not familiar with your new van, but if it has these devices and you intend to purchase a towing vehicle with self levelling
suspension, be aware of this: The van and the vehicle will fight each other. This is aside from any weight issues as described in the posts above.
I have been in touch with other Disco 3 owners (including one who tows a 3 tonne van) and they say that towing without aids fitted to the van is not a problem with the vehicle's self-levelling
suspension.
Cheers,
Russ.
