Hi all, could I ask anyone who has recently travelled the GRR as to how much fire wood there is around
camping areas now. Do we have to take the wood in with us or whats the go?
Cheers

Hey Dunworkin,
Just got back from two weeks up there myself - where are you looking at staying and I will tell you if I went there? I mainly
bush camp but did call in at
Mitchell,
El Questro, Mornington, Leopold Ranges etc
If you want GPS co-ords of good
camp sites I have those too.
Cheers

Great grassy site at
the junction of GRR and the track to
Tunnel Creek - just head on the track west just before the bridge on the GRR -
sign posted that there is a
shop down there
camp site is on the right before the
shop.
Bush
camp at creek crossing on the
Tunnel Creek road - track to the west after crossing Apex
creek - go to the second
camp site that you come across - slightly rocky and not too much shade but there is a shaded pool there
End of
Tunnel Creek road south -
camp to the east 62km from
the junction or 10km from the hwy
Camp by the river - very nice just before crossing
Bell Creek (if you are heading North) on the left, can't miss it - plenty of wood
Before Mt Elizabeth road S 16 30.845 E 126 21.340 3km in
Kalumburu junction - on east and west of track S 16 7.135 E 126 31.215 after crossing the
Gibb River

Thanks for all that info Battlecat, much appreciated.
We haven't really set out our campsites as yet, will see where we get to and then
camp.

Mate, heven't been that way for years but the Tropical Woodland Savannah in the
Kimberley grows plenty of eucaplypts and wattles. It should just be a matter of walking a bit further to look for some firewood. I have never had a problem finding firewood in most
places, including the Nullarbor !

Thanks Willem, the excercise at the end of each day will be good for us.
I remember travelling the Nullabor years ago when we use to go back to SA every two years to see grandparents, (my family comes from SA) it was us kids who always had to find the wood and light the fire when we camped. (we must have left enought wood there for you Willem in later years!!!!!) Geez the memories.
Cheers

I could be wrong - memory is fading - but I THINK that at Bells, and possibly at
Manning Gorge campsites there was firewwood provided. Fairly sure about Bells, less sure about Manning.

Thanks Greydemon, those two
places are on our current "to see list" so maybe a
camp site for one of the nights out there.
