Just put on BFG All Terrains (LT265 70R 17) to standard rims for 2005 Prado and found it impossible to fit spare to rear door carrier even after removing the plastic protector from the carrier. Has anyone solved the problem, as I am sure I would not be alone with this problem. I am thinking the solution is to put 10mm spacers between the carrier and the door mounting point ? Any suggestions or am I on the right track.

Hi Jacko
It's a common problem that happens when you up size your gumboots (tyres).
Solutions:
Change rims to ones that have off centred hub mounting position,
or go to ARB, TJM or any good forby toys supply shop & check out either a Kaymar or ARB rear wheel carrier spacer.
I wouldn't consider the stacked washer scenario as a spacer, unless you want to pay later for the door nuts damage.
The Kaymar or ARB rear wheel carrier spacer are great as they distribute the pressure evenly over a large area as opposed to the stacked washers which focus the pressure quiet severely on to a small area.

Success with your endeavour

Do : do a search , fix this yourself for < $10

Dont : go to ARB etc spend a fortune to do the same thing.
