Love The Outback
Hi everybody
I’m looking for best deal on connection to my Phone Motorola 9505 Iridium. As I written before, we are preparing our self for Canning S. R. in August. I ‘m very confused who to join since I need connection for 1 month at the time (next one in October).
Given that on this side, are
well-informed people, I would like your opinion on the matter.
Thank you gracefully “Love The Outbackâ€

read several threads on this
forum on this exact topic
if you only want emergency comms then use a Telstra GSM sim card enabled for international roaming ... no service charges but expect to be billed by Telstra at their maximum rate for any calls you do make (ie: Iridium will connect the call & then bill Telstra .. who in turn bill you at the maximum rate because you aren't signed up to one of their satellite plans)
if you want it to chat to others then i suspect you are best off signing up to a plan which will have cheaper perminute rates

Thank you for response to my question.
I found TR Telecommunication as other option and now, I'm bloody more confused than before .......
But it looks that deal with GSM+roaming is the think!

I have the same phone and all I do is take my sim card from my GSM phone, which is connected to the Telstra network and has international raomimg and use that.

LTO
I have an ancient (and slowly dying but still workable) old 9 year old Thrane & Thrane Capsat phone, and I have the most amazing deal with AST Communications in
Perth.
They charge $3 per minute, and nothing to maintain the account. We go away, I drag out the phone and
test it then off we go. If we phone up the bill goes straight to our credit card.
Best I've seen around, but I have no idea if its still available. AST is on www.asta.net.au or ast@asta.net.au.
Another option

Hi Max
On NSW long weekend we talked to some people in Moree - Artesian spas. Very nice girl told us about same deal. Their phone does not have SIM card - that old is the phone.
She couldn't tell us, what kind of deal it is, but charges , no account and whole set-up was the same. When I called ASTA today they emailed me different set-ups, but nothing what you or those other people have.
I just wonder if they stop offering same deal, and they hoping people like you will go away…?
If I could have this option, it would be end of my search and struggle to find best deal.
Max, thanks for your input. I wish to know more.

I guess about all you could do is ask if they still have the Inmarsat MiniM plan and see if they have it "up their sleeve" as it were. Then you will have to find a phone without a SIM card like ours - probably works on modern phones too.
Good luck!
