Not sure but of a similar vein I found that when I was living in Adelaide (if you can call that living...) I would get at least 50-100km less range (using about 120ltrs) when I filled with Wollies diesel.

There is a octane-like rating for diesels that if low will affect performance and economy.

Yes the cetane rating can and does vary, when it is really crook it is really noticeable as the vehicle doesn't pull at all well especially on hills.
After a few dud tankfuls from Volume Plus in NSW I'll never buy it from them again, it also caused extremely high EGT's so much so that it melted the insulation on the wiring to the trans. Never again!

Yes most of them are, I won't ever use it again. I have no problem with using biodiesel usually, the stuff from Marrickville or rutherglen up in the Hunter is ok but as I said the EGT's with the VP bio were extreme.

Hi Steve, I have heard/read on here in previous posts about the fuel range been different depending on where people were fueling up. I did notice a difference when I fueled up at say woolworths near home compared to BP near my work. Also around the 50k mark. If the vehicle is running ok I would say its where your getting your fuel from thats making the difference. Regards Steve M

I found that two consecutive tanks of B40 bio diesel I purchased last year in NSW gave noticeably worse fuel consumption in my GU patrol. Came good when I reverted to conventional diesel.
I didn't notice much change with SAFF's biodiesel.
Otherwise, I get pretty consistent fuel consumption with conventional diesel.

Hi there Gerry, Was talking to the bloke that bought my hilux off me the other day found some spare parts I had so had to get his address again to send off to him. He was telling me he ran biodiesel by mistake in the old lux a few weeks ago 2 tank fulls before he realised the pump he was filling up with was bio diesel. He said the fuel usage jumped from 10 per 100 to 14.7. I told him I never ever had those figures in the time I owned it. When he realized that he filled with bio he went back to normal diesel and all back to normal again. Took a couple of tanks to get back down to the 10L per 100. I have also heard this stuff stuffs the seals on the older pumps only what Ive heard.I had never used it. Regards Steve M

Hi Steve,
Yeh, in my case, there was no chance of an abberation; I had driven from WA to Vic and NSW with basically the same load, speed, etc, so I knew what was my average fuel consumption. Did two full tanks of B50 bio (misquoted B40 on my earlier post); ie, about 250L, and I thought I had problems with the wagon, but decided that it was the diesel, so went back to a mainstream stuff, and all was ok after that. Was normally getting about 13L/100k, but it went up to about 15 with the B50. It was quite a bit cheaper than standard diesel, but the extra consumption whittled away any savings.
But I've run the SAFF (B20) a bit in SA and Gull B20 in WA - no real difference in consumption as far as I can observe. So dunno what was in that B50 - thinners, perhaps? Looked like p!ss, real yellow!
