Hello all, I have recently purchased a 92 mod 80 series factory turbo diesel cruiser. The problem is that all the dash lights start to flash on and off in an irregular pattern. Once the engine revs are above 1700 all the idiot lights on the dash including the amber TURBO light start to flash, this has no effect on the running or performance from the engine. But maybe someone can steer me in the direction that I need to look for a solution, like a loose connection or whatever. I am hoping that I am not alone on this and a cure is moments away.
Regards: Phil

Hi pf11
It sounds like a bad earth or faulty relay. Can you hear a clicking noise somewhere or are any of the wiring harnesses running warm ?
It may be a job for your local auto electrician.
Regards
Derek.

Hi Derek, thanks for the quick response. No mate I can't hear anything like a "click" and I am yet to test the looms for heat. Tomorrow I will do a run and I will check the looms and I will see where that leads to. Thanks again for your input.

Hi Phil my parents used to have a early turbo 80 series and it used to do the same thing from not long after new turned out to be the plugs that plugs into the back of the alternator had bad connections

Yes, I agree. In my case it was the wires of that plug being hard against the air cleaner housing (the Chev V8 has the alternator next to this housing) and one wire had rubbed through.

Common problem with 80's, disconnect the batteries, clean the connections into the back of the alternator. DO NOT attempt to do it with disconnecting the batteries, you will be doing some involuntary welding.

Thanks heaps guys, yep the problem seems to have gone for now. I cleaned the contacts on the alternator, the wiring loom and the battery. Only time will tell but so far all is good, thanks again for your responses.
Cheers: Phil
