I'm planning a 6 month trip to Aus, arriving early August. I've already done 7 trips of 4-6 weeks where I've hired 4WD Campervans, usually a Britz Toyota Bushranger. This time I need to buy secondhand, and subsequently sell, or
park up for future trips.
So the biggest question is which is the best Aussy City to land at, where there will be a good choice of secondhand 4WD Campervans to purchase?

How long is a piece of string???
Where do you want to go???
I'd recommend starting in the North and driving south closer to summer as you don't want to be north then.
You'll probably find with any town in the north that there will be a million people like yourself that want to buy a camper so be aware that prices will be far over inflated - apart from that what about maitenence on a 2nd hand vehicle (it may cost you more in the long run)... I remember in
Cairns 2 years ago these Pommy girls paid 5000 for a 79 Hiace that would've fetched $1500 in my hometown of
Perth.
If it were me and I wanted to see as much of Australia as I could I would start off in
Perth, spend a couple of weeks down south, head north to be in
Darwin by September and then head over to
Cairns by October and then head south when the tropical build up got too much... then spend the summer months in the south east of Australia.... But thats me and alot of tourist miss out on WA and start off from
Darwin or
Cairns and do the east coast...
Good Luck, Will.

Gooday,
Looked at a Winebago mounted on 2000 Mazda T4000 Diesel, a week or so ago, is a has only done 76,000km approx, completely stacked with everyrhing you would want, and lots more, camper section 4.2 M, in top condition.
This is a Private sale 2nd owner, if interested I have photos & list of Specs I can spacemail you.
It is located at Nanango approx 1&1/2 hrs from
Brisbane.
They were asking $69,000, people I looked for are possibly going to buy new.
If interested let me know & I will phone & see if it is still available.
Cheers Boroma 604. PS only 2wd

Hi Pommy Chris,
When I travelled around Aus, a number of years ago, I met up with some German girls and a few English couples who told me that there is a roaring trade going where travellers buy, travel and then sell on cars and vans that do an endless round of trips around Australia. Mind you these are probably all old bangers, not necessarily
well maintained or comfortable.
What will your budget be? That will really decide things for you.
I agree with ... sorry forgotten name ... who recommends heading to Western Australia first and then going North. Even if you start in
Melbourne, where you should be able to get a 4wd camper, and then head across via South Australia. That half of Aus and the Northern Territory are just fantastic!
Good luck and have fun

G'day Chris,
I follow the market a bit and there are plenty of good deals around in the second hand market due to cheap finance deals and many people purchasing new. Here in
Melbourne there is plenty of competion in the market making it a buyers paradise. You can however check the market for comparisons by going to: www.carsales.com.au or www.carpoint.com.au
Cheers Mark

Hi PommyChris
We are just finishing our 6 mth trip around Oz. We met some Dutch guys on the way round - they are finishing their trip around end of July and are planning to sell their car in
Perth after that.
They seemed happy with their car - they took it to
Cape York and lots of other
places. Now listed on www.carsales.com.au. I tried to produce a link to the car but it did not work. If you go to this site, and search by private used car. Enter 4323527 in the keywords section and it should come up.
I can't really comment on the car myself but just thought it seemed worth a look.
Cheers
Alan
