"LPG for cars, previously free of excise, will be taxed by 2.5 cents per litre from mid-2008. That'll go up to an eventual rate of 12.5 cents per litre by 2012."

Hey Will,
Known about this for a while- this is why many people have been hesitant about taking up new lpg installation rebate offer... anyway:
Here is the article I found when looking for the actual figures.

But those stories are 7 years old almost to the month.
Somewhere inbetween that time and now the Government has stated that by 2008 the LPG prices will also attract the Fuel Excise Levy and prices will go up from there.
Cheers

I was also a bit concerned with the info before getting a conversion and asked the RAA (SA) about the rise. It was not much of a raise maybe 20c. They told me the raise was over 7 years and nothing until 2011 but this info was given to me a few months ago so the figures might be a bit out, best check it out for yourself at your local RAA.

Totally agree with Chard, Yes the Gas is going to go up, so instead of paying 40% the price of ULP or Diesel we will be paying 50%. I can still live with that....
Last weekend we done a trip with Uncle Des and some other friends, I was towing my Jayco pop top and mate was towing his Jayco fullsize (so slightly heavier) but on the trip we refilled at the same time at
Pinnaroo, Cost for my Mitsi $16.90 cost for mates 80 series diesel was $32.25 Leave it to you to work out if its worth it...

of corse it will, when enough suckers have been enticed into gas they will put up the price, My Troopy is designed to run on diesel and thats all it will be fed

Yep, I agree.
LPG price will definitely rise, that's for sure, but it'll always be in proportion to the rise of petrol.
I remember when LPG was like 13 cents per litre - petrol then was like 50 cents a litre.
Now LPG is overing around the 43 cents per litre but petrol is around the $1.20 a litre.
So the gist of it is that if you travel lots of kms and your travels are not far away from an LPG pump, definitely do an LPG conversion.
Especially these days, the newer LPG systems are so advanced.
