a bit o/t but still about exploringoz.
was interested in doing a weekend horseriding in the high country with swmbo and 2 daughters.
we thought maybe $200 each its only a horse and a bit of a feed.
done a bit of a web search and looks like they want $450+ per person.
what a load of crap.
i know im a tight ass but thats just way to much.
so does anyone know anyone in the high country that might do trail rides for a decent price please.
cheers

you priced hay this year?
2-4 times usual price

They'll probably claim that insurance cost has driven the price.......

Good luck!
Most places around here have shut down because the insurance premiums are just to expensive! I wouldnt be suprised if its the same situation everywhere.

Blame HIH and the like for stuffing up public liability insurance. Horse riding is risky so insurance will be high. People who get thrown would probably want to sue nowadays too.

I can't offer you any help, just a quick story.
Where I live we have a lot of horseriders, pony clubs etc
Today was cold and I went to the shop in jeans, jacket, cap and scarf. On the way there and back I noted two young girls (about 13-18yo) riding their horses on the side of the road. Both were wearing a proper safety hat, and a pair of bikinis!
2 points.
They must have been Kiwis to think that their gear was warm enough (yes kids don't feel the cold as much but..)
Should they have been thrown, the bikinis would not offer them much protection.
Maybe I'm just an old killjoy, but how could anyone let their kids ride in that clobber....or lack thereof ?

"cap and scarf"

LOL what???? On the Qld coast, or near enough to it? You're definitely getting on Footy. The bikini clad riders proved it hahahahaha

This isn't in the high country, but if you would like to come up to the Mallee of Vic then you could go riding in the sand and scrub around Lake Albacutya for free. All you would have to do is get here, supply your own camping, food, etc etc. The horses and rides would cost you nothing.

It's great riding and great country.

Send me a member message if you would be interested and we can work from there.
