Just reading an old 4x4 Australia mag, issue 43 from August 1987 to be exact, and stumbled on an article on page 23 titled 'El Cheapo - Suzi's low cost lunchbox'. It was written by some bloke who's owned 7 of the flamin' things including a little 539cc two-stroke LJ50 which is reported to have outrun the
ranger on the
Gold Coast's main beach, then towed a 1,500kg tandem trailer to
Darwin with it.
Who is this this gonzo journo you may ask.........???
Some joker called .......ahhh let me see..mmmmm.....here it is....'Willie Kempen'.
Never heard of him.
Sounds like a bloody trouble maker if you ask me.

Hey, just be VERY careful. He's had 20+ years to learn his "trade" (ie: being a trouble-maker), so watch ya step. I would never dare have a battle of wits with Willie; I'd run out of ammo very early in the tussle!!! hahaha

I think you're right on the mark there Roachie.
A wise old reprobate once told me......."old age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill". Never forgot it either.

In fact now you mention it, I vaguely remember reading about some other miscreant in a later issue of the mag (the cover shot no less) who drove a white Patrol with all kinds of gizmo's in it.
Now, what was his name?????? Have to find out - he sounded like a trouble maker too;-)

Hmmmm..Just like the Internet, these things come back to bite one.
That was NOT my heading but the one the editor before Ron Moon decided upon. He got 'moved on' to another job for that debacle and other transgressions and not to mention the numerous typos and incorrect statements That was actually my very first full 4x4 article having written some other newsy 4x4 stuff previously for 4x4 Australia Mag.
That little Suzi also completed a trip to the
Kimberley in 1986 and a North-South Simpson Crossing in 1987 via the Geographical Centre opf the Simpson.
Yep, Troublemaker indeed, but a fair one.
Cheers

Blaze,
I should send you the bill for the cleanup after I spat a glass of red.

Yeah, that'd be the one - the last of the 'pre hump' models. Humps didn't come in until December from memory;-)))
