Pathfinder suspension problem

G'day all, just been talking to a mate who has a 96 Pathy and recent;y has had both top control arms on the rear
suspension crack at the factory weld joining the eye to the tube.
He doesn't do any off road stuff at all.
He got one welded, but has also ordered a new one at the cost of (gulp) $400.00
Anyone else had this problem.
