G'day all,
Thanks again to everyone that offered advice & info.
Problem may have been solved. The soft knocking noise I described in post (46765) got a lot louder over the last few days, I took it to a mate/mechanic who diagnosed problem as being stuffed rear engine/gearbox mount. Vehicle booked in this friday for replacement, so hopefully thats the problem fixed. Will wait and see.
