Folks,
I'm heading across the Simmo in mid July and was wondering if a recent Tripper could advise on the current Diesel price at Mount Dare ? I know that prices can alter significantly in a month but I'm only after a general idea !
Thanks,
Vince.

Not sure Vince, but whatever it is, its worth it. We would be stuffed without them there, beers, pies, oh and fuel of course. Have a great trip.

Don't worry about the price Vince - you have no options but to buy it. Rather you need to make sure they have fuel. When we crossed in 2002, there was no diesel at Mt Dare so we had to fill at
Oodnadatta and miss Mt Dare as it would have added too much to the total distance to
Birdsville.

Hi Lyndon,
503 kms from pub (
Birdsville) to pub (MtDare) on the French Line. All deviations add to the total. About 1100 dunes!
Enjoy.
Cheers

Mate I'd be surprised if Ian's mob have suddenly gone anachist: have seen some rip-off prices, but Mt Dare pretty
well operates on the honesty system. Just be pleased they're there.
(Yes, yes, I know I can't spell anachist, but I can tell you
the rip-off prices at Three-Ways cf surrounding outlets is/ was (2004), bloody outrageous.)
Factor in another $100 (No drinks? Make that $10 only)on total outlay of trip. Spend a night there: we didn't, but regret it.
Mt Dare struck me as honest. Their price is fair, and they probably turn over the fuel
well enough.
May Camel dung clog your nostrils 92GQ.

With the fuel price hovering around the $70 a barrel mark you can expect diesel to cost around $1.90 litre at Mt Dare. I would budget on $2 litre anywhere in remote Central Australia. If it is less then you are infront...in your mind anyway...lol

I don't know about that Stevo 62.
On our trip the 2 Toyotas needed the 93 GQ as back up

Maybe you betta take a Mitsi as backup for both the GQ and the Yota's.... LOL
Also I know its worth a look at Mt Dare, and i'm not sure which way you are travelling but we mainly cut across from
Oodnadatta to Delhousie, not much difference in total distance across the SD doing it this way.

Anyone want a lend of a LADA then?
Well, seeing as this goes on with more ridiculous statements by the minute, I better just go all the way!
Go the GQ!

I noticed your tag says GU and not a GQ :-)
LADA maybe a better choice than the GQ LOL

see you there also. If you see 3 cars and 5 bikes on the track then that's us! I will be in the white GQ patrol leading the pack (to stop head on collisions for the bikes).
Have a great trip. I think the biggest challenge will be keeping warm!

Cheers Gossy,
Will be in a convoy of 2 GQ's, a Disco 3, a 78 series cruiser and 2 motorbikes. I'm pretty sure that we can carry enough Rum and Red Wine to keep the cold at bay.
Leaving
Birdsville on the July 18 for Mt. Dare and returning to Mungerannie via the
Rig Road. Give us wave if you see us !
I was last through
the Desert in June 2005 - I'm looking forward to it more and more as it _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx closer.

If u need fuel buy it if u don't need it u can decide when u get there, i think u will find that they charge what is needed to get the fuel to where it is.
It seems that u expect them to be ripping u off, some
places do do this i think u will like MtDare if u enjoy
camping.

Mattie,
No ! I did not expect to be ripped off - quite the opposite in fact ! The folks at Mount Dare helped me out with up-to-date info before my last crossing and I certainly enjoyed a cold Beer and a hot pie when I reached their friendly shores !
I'm just gathering details as I put the final touches to my trip plans.
Vince.
