G'day all, i've got a Waeco 50L fridge with digital display & was wondering what temperature should i put it on to freeze meat (steak, chops, etc)?

Hi Brad,
I run
mine on 3 lights, which gives an internal temperature of around -1.7 degrees. Food and drinks are not frozen at this point (but very cold). Anything above 5 lights will start to freeze with no problems. Part of it will be trial and error, but if the meat is frozen at home, then 5-6 will keep it there.

Only fresh
water will begin to freeze at 0 Deg. Anything with sugar in it (beer/softdrink) will require -5 deg or more to freeze.
Trial and error is the way to go, as i have learnt, while the wife sits back us guys will tinker with stuff like the fridge and batteries etc.

Can't answer the Waeco bit, but can I suggest you go to Jaycar and buy one of their $19.95 indoor/outdoor digital temp things. Put the outdor probe inside the bottom of the fridge and cabletie the gauge to the outside. they run on a single AA battery which lasts a couple of years. That way you know whats going on.

To freeze meat you should be looking at at least -10 deg.

The colder the better. The deep freeze at home sits at about -18, while the freezer compartment above the fridge sits at around -6.
Keep in mind that if you vacuum pack the meat (cryovac) or get the butcher to do it, you won't need to freeze it at all. Saves a lot of wear and tear on the fridge.

We purchased a Waeco CF-80 a few months and then had problems with the kitchen fridge. So I turned the Waeco on. I wasn't sure of the correct temperatures so I rang Waeco and they informed be the fridge had to be set at 0 or -1 degrees and the freezer I can't quite remember of the top of my head but about -12 degrees.
Just ring the number on the back of the brochures.They were very helpful.
