g'day,

i don't own one but i believe for your purpose (towing 17footer) it would be a "tad" frustrating (slow.) Look for a factory turbo or petrol (don't forget the 80 series.)

As above, look for a T/D and if their to dear, you can pick up petrol models cheap and in the purchase savings you get alot of fuel.Plus you get more power.
I have a 2003 GXL N/A and its a pain towing our camper that is under 1 T, its getting a turbo and inter cooler soon(I think).

The manual box (R151F) on the HZJ105 that you're looking at is the weak link.
If you get a 6cyl petrol 105series or a factory turbo 100series (they have the stronger H150F box), or any auto transmission, you'll be better off.

Phil,

Do you know whether the H150F gearbox can be fitted to the 105 diesel standard, should the unthinkable happen? Might have to keep this in mind down the track, though hopeully not...

Though I do think with sensible driving it should be OK as is.

Cheers,

Mark

Why not just fit an aftermarket turbo on it, at 120000 km it's hasn't even been worked in yet.

The cost of an aftermarket turbo (approx $3000 depending on brand and who fits) + the cost of the Cruiser will still be less than trying to get a factory turbo of similar milage and price.

It will give you the benefit of a diesel and the power of a petrol. Towing a 17ft caravan is going to chew the juice.

IMHO anyway.
