As a follow up to the wet dry season post, yesterday, my wife rang me at work asking if we had a heater. I remembered a small electric heater I've had for ever, and directed her to its location. Still talking to her on the phone while she plugged it in, I hear my 4yo daughter in the background..."Whats that Mummy?"...."A heater"...."Oh....is there a fire in there?"

We both lost it laughing, seems it hasn't been this cold for at least 4 years!

The grey and not so grey nomads may not be having the best of times at the moment. My wife had one greet her in the supermarket the other day..."you look like a local, is there a st vinnies or similar in town where I could buy a jumper or cardigan? I pity those in tents at the moment, I haven't camped in the rain for almost ever..

Cheers Andrew

Should warm up in the next week.....I'm planning to do about 60 sqm of bush rock slate, there is no way it will stay cool for that!

Andrew,

Been camping twice in the last 2 weeks down here in Vic. Freezing and raining most of the first trip into the mountains, then cold, rain and strong winds for the trip along the coast at Malacoota....not so great for sea kayaking.... lucky I had my 'cardi'...!

Cheers,

Mark

Gday Mark

Its been awhile since I've been down that way. I always wanted to drive the coast from Malacoota to Marlo, but I only did a few excursions from the highway to the coast. I still think the coldest I have ever been was in Merimbula, not the coldest day, but we were doing the steel work for a second story slab and it was blowing a gale from the west, snowing on Brown Mountain etc. I don't think I will ever be doing that again! (can't believe I wrote that, as a kid I used to work on farms chipping weeds, vowed never to do it again. All was good 'til I mooved to KNX, then found myself dooing it in 39 degrees.....only for 2 days, then got a better job)

Cheers Andrew

mmmm, the gibb may be in pretty bad nick for a few weeks....it will warm up soon. I do feel for the people who have come up for a week or so on the 'trip of a lifetime' and their schedule means this had to be the week to do the gibb.

Melbourne has been fairly bitter the last few days, however I've only got 7 days left before heading North for 2 months. At least by having this cold spell before I go, I'll know what I'm leaving behind. Leaving here next Friday 29th., and heading for Newcastle to pick up with other family members travelling with us. In fact they may be pretty pleased to leave home also. We're then off to Groper Creek, N.Q. hopefully to catch fish, prawns , mud crabs and sunshine for a while. After a month there we're heading down to Rubyvale, in the Gem fields, to try and snaffle a sapphire or two. Then slowly head for home again. Should be back in early September, and hopefully the worst weather will be gone. Can't wait. They're the joys of being an old fart...!!!

Hi Andrew
Agree that the Tin Lids come up with absolute classics. Some of their comments are often based on the simplest things we take for granted.

I don't feel as bad if KNX is having a 'cold snap' ;-)
We picked up our new van on the June longweekend and since then we have been itching to try it out however Newcastle region has copped a battering with the weather over the last few weeks and we are still waiting..... waiting.....waiting..... for the weather to improve.
Hoping this weekend we can get away for a night for a test run.
Cheers
PeteS
