Hey,
Going to get my clutch done in the Patrol. Was thinking the Excedy Safari with Solid Mass flywheel, cost all up $2500 but then I began thinking about having an autobox put in instead. Can this be done? What price would I be lookng at? I dont tow nothing and I hear they are great in sand and 700 less revs sitting on 110 on the black top.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
DJ

It will be more, but at that price I wont be doing it...
Unless I can find the parts, and fit them myself, and then get them to do the Auto wiring and shizzle..
finding a GOOD gearbox is the hard part he says.. They are $4000 to rebuild..!

Why did you get a price for the auto? You have a manual now?

search outerlimits for threads on clutches, I think the Daiken also gets a good mention, but nobody has ever mentioned over a grand, let alone 2500....

Hey Truckie - Daiken and Exeddy are one and the same company these days. $2500 is not too bad for a HD clutch and a flywheel.....flywheel alone from Nissan is approx $3000.

Well the price hasnt gone down - its gone up!
They need a wiring loom - this comes from Nissan Japan.. BUT... there are 3 different ones- up to $750-800 FOR SOME bleep IN WIRE AND PLUGS!
Im going to ask the bloke for a break down of the prices on the quote, what costs what and how hard to laugh.
And at the end of the day, I dont know if this comes with a reconditioned gearbox or just one from a wrecker!

Just had my clutch done in the 4.2TD cost $1200 and the car came back cleaner than it has ever been. The workshop is attached to one of those car wash Cafe things and they did the outside and inside. Very nice.
No solid mass flywheel but it was a Safari kit.

Yes the safari clutch kit without flywheel costs around the $800-$900 mark then the solid mass fly wheel costs $900 then $600 for labour. I'm just figuring that while it's apart I may as
well get it replaced with a clutch and flywheel that will last longer than the dodgy standard Nissan clutch and dual mass flywheel. An extra $1200 now will save me more cost in another 60,000 when the clutch dies again.

Diesel,
My clutch, the original one lasted 115,000km. I do a fair bit of towing off road and the car also taught the daughter to drive. I figure that cost me a fair bit of clutch life.
I expect to get closer to 150,00km out of this one.
Truckster,
You could run rings around me on the tech specs of the GU. I have no idea what type of flywheel my GU has except that it is the one it left the factory with.
