Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me the best road to drive to Mt Augustus (Cobra Station)?
We will start from Tom Price and have to choose between either
- drive to Newman, Great Northern Highway, gravel road to Three Rivers, Mingh Springs Rd, Deverell Mulgul Rd, Mt Augustus Woodlands Rd
- drive to Newman, Great Northern Highway till Meekatharra, then Meekatharra Rd, Landor Mt Augustus Rd
- from Tom Price Nanutara Rd, Ashburton Dows Rd, Ashburton Dows Meekatharra Rd, Pingandy Rd, Doodley Downs Rd.
Are all these directions well signed ?
Traveltime is beginning October with a 4WD
I have been trying also to find info on what the roads are like.
Thanks for your suggestions

"from Tom Price Nanutara Rd, Ashburton Dows Rd, Ashburton Dows Meekatharra Rd, Pingandy Rd, Doodley Downs Rd. "

This is the road we took in 2005. We got to within 15km of Mt Augustus when the heavens opened up and all further travel came to a halt. We had to backtracl out again and to Meeka.

We made it to Mt Augustus in 2006 from GNHwy via Old Barradale RH turnoff, Toerra Road, Mangaroon, Cobra Station etc.

Roads are normally in good condition with gravelly bits amd maybe the odd bulldust patch. There were some corrugations but not really bad for either of the roads driven.

Cheers

Agree with Willem, we took that route in reverse last year. Just watch out for the dips and floodways and you'll be right. The Hema map fo rthe region is good.
Don't forget to look in at the Kennedy Ranges as well.

12 more sleeps and I will be off to that area, taking the Mt Augustus to Paraburdoo road (the trek notes route). Might see you there. Should be around Augustus from about the 9th-11th.

Hi Sloy,

Is there anything there which would cause trouble for an Off Road trailer?
