1.
Alice Springs to Mt Dare: OK to go through
Rodinga, Finke, Charlotte Waters? Is there a better way? We want to check out
Chambers Pillar and Lambert's Centre on the way.
2. What's the chance of
Walkers Crossing Rd being open by mid August?
3. What's the chance of the
Inside Track (Clifton Hills to
Birdsville) being open by mid August?
Thanks in anticipation to anyone who can help.

1. Yes, but it is corrugated and bumpy.
The alternative is to go to
Chambers Pillar, then backtrack to the Hugh River Stock Route and then the Stuart Hwy, and then access
Lambert Centre via
Kulgera and the Finke Road
2. Not good
3. Not good
It depends on rain of course and inland Australia is known to get a bit of winter rain from time to time. We got thoroughly soaked out in those areas in July 2005.
The
Inside Track runs across open country and has a clay base and even the slightest bit of rain will stop you in your tracks.
Cheers

Thanks, Willem.
The route you suggest as an alternative way to Mt Dare - it is clearly a lot longer, but also allowing of higher speeds. In terms of what there is to see and experience, which would you personally choose?

I would take the Hugh River Stockroute. It is an easier run and you will not have to backtrack to Finke to get to Mt Dare. The route along the old railway line isn't fun unless you like bouncing...lol

Thanks again!
We may
well have had our fill of bouncing by then, having (hopefully) done AB to Neale Jn, CS, GB, Finke Gorge before doing Chambers ...
And BTW, thanks for your informative website - it has been very helpful in planning our trip.
