Hi all
We are looking for a different way to come home from
Broome this year. There is a road on my map called Ranken Road which turns off the
Tablelands Highway near Brunette Downs station and joins the
Barkly Highway not far from
Avon Downs. If anyone out there who had done this road I would appreciate any advice on its condition and suitability to tow our Tvan down it.
Thanks
Peter

Meandet,
We travelled on that road back in 2000 so my info isn't current. Back then it was a good dirt road with just the normal corrugations and nothing to worry about. We enjoyed the drive.

Thanks Viv
I think it was you that gave me some info on the Buntine and Buchanan highways and we will be travelling that way on our way to
Cape Leveque in about 6 weeks.
The trip that you guys did in 2000 must have been a beauty
Cheers

Peter,
We tried to drive the Ranken Road in May 2006 but could not get through. We had to stop just short of Connells
Lagoon as the track had become extremely boggy with nowhere to turn around. We were the first vehicle to try after cyclone Larry though and there was a lot of
water around.
If you are going at this time of year without the big rain late in the wet I would think it would be fine. It was a pleasant drive - mostly good dirt road although it was only two wheel tracks in some
places.
It does pass through a number of cattle stations so stick to the track.

Thanks for the advice Ando. We intend to travel that way in late September so I better check conditions before attempting it.
Cheers
