Steve from Top End Explorer Tours
On Friday I way in an unfortunate position, I was part of a rescue party at
Jim Jim Falls, where a 65 year old man fell and had Suspected spinal and head injuries.
A simple slip and this man fell 2 meters on to the rocks head first.
The problem was were he fell, there was
no access by chopper, so after he was stabilized we had to float him on a stretcher across 100 meters of cold
water.
The medivac chopper had to come from
Darwin, The whole rescue and evac took 4 hours.
Remote nurses and a doctor were flown in from
Jabiru earlier, From all reports he is stable in
Darwin hospital.
Just to let you know my pax were being looked after by my wife who was also on a tour.
Cheers Steve.

Steve
Commercially, that's expensive for you, and a lot of work for a lot of people. Thanks for being willing to do it.
Reminds me of a time years ago when my (then) teenage kids and Jan & I were going to climb St Mary's Peak near
Wilpena Pound. We waited on the saddle for a couple of hours, and watched the rescue chopper (from
Adelaide) keep looking for a hole in the cloud to get down and pick up a bloke who had a heart attack up near the top. He'd been up there all night and it was after lunch before the chopper got through.
Time the track was clear it was too late to get up there, and we walked down with the SES crew who had been in attendance. National
Park Rangers and local cockies - had lots of fun chaffing each other, but fact is they has spent 24 hours away from their properties or jobs helping the bloke.
I guess we all ought to be grateful to all these people who are prepared to look after us when things go wrong, and should chuck a few dollars in to appeals for funds by these bodies, as
well as Flying Doctor etc too.

Just to clarify he was on a tour with another company, fortunatly I have not had that experience as yet.
Although when I worked for another company years ago, I did have a girl air lifted out , she didn't listen to sound advice and slipped and fractured her hip on top of
Twin Falls.
It was a 6 hour wait for the chopper.
Cheers Steve.
